Course Title : Biochemistry

Course Description:An introductory course in General Biochemistry which is an essential foundation for all three Specialization options of theDepartment. It covers the following subjects: Water, properties of solutions, buffers. Biological molecules and macromolecules. Proteins (levels oforganization, interaction, post-translation synthesis, modifications, functions). Enzymes. Carbohydrates (structure and metabolism). Energymetabolism (Krebs cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, fermentations). Lipids (structure and metabolism, lipoproteins, lipid messengers). Nucleicacids. Vitamins. The course includes lectures and laboratory exercises.
