General Objectives

Faculty of Law’s primary goal is to provide students with a thorough and high-quality education in the field of law by harmoniously integrating them in the apprenticeship of the science of law: A systematised body of knowledge that interprets the law in force in a given society as regulatory rules of the social life of people. The primary goal of the Legal Studies Program is the education of qualified individuals in the theory and philosophy of law and ethical responsibility under the supervision of attorneys.

The teaching of courses is carried out using various educational institutions and teaching methods, introducing students to the relevant branches of law while encouraging them, at the same time, to refer to specific scientific literature and jurisprudence.

The suggestions that follow hereinafter, as well as the detailed program structure are based on our belief that the objectives of a Department of Law are not strictly limited to forming lawyers capable of performing before the court, but also comprehend, on one hand, the integration of graduates in other productive sectors of economy, such as companies, banks, the Civil Service etc, and, on the other, the general role played by the Science of Law in forming a mature society.

Specific Objectives

The Legal Studies Program aims inter alia to familiarize the students during the four-year course with the “principles” and the basic concepts governing the Legal (Anglo-Saxon) System of North Cyprus, together with that of Turkey.

Thus, the student is initiated into comparative method and can understand the developments resulting from the on-going internationalization of law. Particular emphasis also is given to the international and European legal education, which should characterize a modern legal expert, while ensuring that the academic knowledge of law is accompanied by the appropriate practical experience on its application.

The Specific Objectives of this program of study include:

  • To equip students with a sound understanding and the necessary knowledge in the various fields of law; national law, European law, international law, substantive and procedural law as well as public and private law.
  • To familiarise them with the legal thinking, enabling them to interpret and correctly apply the law.
  • To develop their legal education in order to introduce them to the adaptability of the law, the research and continuous search of law, enabling them to become successful in any profession requiring a degree in law, and to effectively contribute in the development of the social, political and cultural values of the country.
