Course Title: Introductions to Environmental Sciences

Short Course Description: The nature of our planet and how did it form. Earth’s internal structure and its dynamical character. Majorenvironmental hazards (ozone depletion, hurricanes, global warming and depletion of water resources) as examples of risk management. Thescientific principles underlying each hazard and examination how social and economic policies were or should be developed and implementedto mitigate the perceived risk. Environmental Risks and Disasters: Introduction to risks and hazards in the environment. Basic physical principlescontrolling the hazardous phenomena and simple quantitative methods for making scientifically reasoned assessments of the threats (to healthand wealth) posed by various events, processes, and exposures. Methods of risk mitigation and sociological, psychological, and economic aspects of risk control and management.
